The Stayton House Antiques & Curiosities 784 North 3rd Avenue, Stayton, OR

viewed 1,127 times

Hi! We're Mel & Mary Wallace, the owners of the Stayton House.

After living and teaching on the southern Oregon coast for over 35 years, we were ready for a new adventure. We fell in love with this house and once we moved here in 2009, we decided to put an antique shop in the front two rooms. We quickly discovered that we needed more space, so the shop has spread through most of the main floor. We love being the “custodians” of this beautifully restored piece of Stayton history and sharing it with our customers.
History of the House

The Stayton House was built in 1905 by Charles and Ethel Stayton and was in the Stayton family for 90 years. When Mary Elizabeth ( Miss Elizabeth) and Esther inherited it from their mother in 1978, Esther sold her part to her sister, who set about restoring it to its former beauty. Dick Jungwirth and George Susbauer bought it from her estate in 1995 and made it into a restaurant and bed & breakfast. When they sold it in 1999 to Kevin and Ankana Doerfler, they remodeled the commercial kitchen into a living room and had an antique shop in the front three rooms. Mel and Mary Wallace bought the home in 2005. In 2009 they moved in and again started an antique shop. We enjoy being the custodians of this wonderful piece of Stayton history and sharing it with our customers.
