Juvederm Can Offer a New You
Nearly everyone is concerned with their facial appearance since it represents the first impression upon meeting another. Unfortunately, age and sunlight can take a toll on the properties of skin which can become dry, losing its elasticity and texture.
Nearly everyone is concerned with their facial appearance since it represents the first impression upon meeting another. Unfortunately, age and sunlight can take a toll on the properties of skin which can become dry, losing its elasticity and texture. Wrinkles and lines can appear prematurely or at any age. One of the most common non-surgical remedies involves gel injections that restore a renewed vitality and smoothness to the skin. Juvederm is one such product and treatment that can rehydrate the tissue and restore that youthful look by removing common wrinkles and lines in the face. The process is easy and quick for those who need results with a facial restoration process that works safely. The acid fillers use in the product received Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in June 2006.
What is it?
The active ingredient in Juvederm consists of hyaluronic acid-staple fillers which comes in a gel form. Hyaluronic acid is a normally occurring acid stored the body's connective tissue and works to keep the skin hydrated (moisture laden) and full. The injection of hyaluronic acid fills in dry, creased areas in the middle to deep areas of the dermis which plumps the tiny lines and wrinkles. It does this by absorbing and binding water molecules in the affected area, adding needed water. It also adds fullness to the face, removing the emaciated look that often comes with advanced age or severe skin folding and deep lines and wrinkles.
Where do Facial Lines and Wrinkles Occur?
Areas under and at the side of the eyes often become dry and wrinkled. “Crow feet” are the words commonly associated with the tiny lines that branch out from the corner of the eyes, often cause by repeated squinting. Bags under the eyes are miniature folds of dry skin below the eyes and above the cheeks. The forehead area might have several lateral folds from one side of the face to the other. The corners of the mouth and lip areas become dry and wrinkled due to repeated facial movements and expressive contortions. The sides of nose might have deep grooves. The neck area will often have some of the deepest folds and wrinkles, appearing vertically and laterally, primarily across the front and throat area.
Administration of the Treatment
Doctors and those experienced in plastic surgery provide the treatment, using a syringe to inject the gel directly into the effected areas. The depth of the injections are commonly administered through the outer layer of the skin, known as the epidermis, and into the connective underlying tissue or dermis. Depending upon the procedure, a doctor can include an anesthetic to deaden the area against pain. The procedure takes about 15 minutes and is considered an out-patient procedure, requiring no hospitalization. Less severe wrinkles and lines might require only one injection session, while more severe wrinkles and deep folds might require followup injections. The treatment last for approximately a year or more. Juvederm comes in an Ultra formula for slight to medium occurring lines and wrinkles, while the Ultra Plus is used for deeper folds and more severe creases.
Post-treatment side effects from Juvederm might include moderate redness, slight swelling, tenderness, or itching associated with some pain. Generally, the symptoms disappear within a week during the normal healing process. Those who have allergies or believe they might suffer an allergic reaction should alert their doctor before treatment.
