8- Social Realism
This is a definition of social realism, two social realists artists, a work of art from each.
Social realism is a style of art, mostly in the 30's, used to convey a political or social message. One artist is Dorothea Lange. One of her most popular works is a woman with 2 of her daughters, back facing the camera. It became known as 'Migrant Mother.' However she captioned it as "Destitute peapickers in California; a 32 year old mother of seven children. February 1936." Another social realism artist is Ben Shahn. One of his works is two dirty little boys sitting on a porch.
